This season’s prey
October ’23 Powerlifting Competition

The German Drug Free Powerlifting Federation holds its annual powerlifting competition in October. I competed in a UK amateur competition back in 2019. It is time to get back into spandex!
Last time out, I made Squat 165KG, Bench 120KG, and Deadlift 190KG. Since then I have made new PBs in Bench 142 and Deadlift 202.5KG. Just last week I made 180KG Squat which is my target for the event.
My target is to compete with a bodyweight of 105KG and aim to hit Squat 180KG, Bench 130-135KG and Deadlift 210KG. (I have not been working on Bench for the last year, and still need to focus on building up the Deadlift, so doubt I can achieve more than 135KG)
January ’24 Birthday on the Boulder
In my post A weekend which will live in infamy, I spoke about my injury-induced failure to climb a boulder with Daughter Number 1, and my promise that we will celebrate my 55th birthday sitting on the rock that temporarily defeated me. It will be January; it will be cold, and it may be raining, but that will not stop me.
Neo-Stone Age Science: Current experiments
Diet Tracking with Macro Factors
Using the Macro Factors app to track food and weight to hit my October 105KG target.
Using Garmin Run Coach
The newer Garmin watches come with a running coach feature that recommends a run for the day based on your previous workouts, recovery and sleep data. It is cool – but is it any good?
…and after the next solstice…
What can I learn from Continuous Glucose Monitoring?
I don’t like needles, so don’t measure glucose. But I am interested in blood sugar and understanding what foods cause spikes, whether tricks like vinegar on salad or a 15 minute walk post meals really have an affect. I will do a two week experiment with a continuous glucose monitor to see what I can see…
Can Isometric Holds deliver fast bicep growth ?
Maybe it is “confirmation bias” but I see a lot of stuff on isometrics right now. Can I integrate them into non-lifting days to achieve useful gains?
