October ’22 – 20x140KG Breathing Squats

I first tried 20-rep breathing squats in 2013, climbing slowly and painfully up to 130KG. I gave up after that because it was too mentally demanding; but a decade later I was ready to try for a new weight.

First time around, I started with sets of 20 reps, increasing the weight each week. This time, I started with 10x140KG and added a rep each week – plus a lof of lower weight volume to maximise the weekly strength gains

November ’20 Pre-Lockdown Testing

When Covid Lockdown came to Germany, we had a few days notice before the gyms were all closed. I decided to test 1RM pre-lockdown so I had goals to maintain while the gyms were closed. In the end I performed close to (but not matching) my 1RMs that were all set the year before. This definitely got me motivated to keep training through the lockdown, even if I had to invest in equipment (something I swore I would never do after moving from USA to DE)

This has become an annual tradition to see if I am continuing to progress – or at least not deteriorate as I hit my mid-50s…

November ’19 – Winter Wolf Run

The Wolf Run is my favourite obstacle race, featuring mud, water, forest, cross-country running, high speed water slides and…obstacles. Pre-lockdown, they offered a race each season; finish all four to claim the Alpha Wolf title – the marketing alone speaks to me :-).

The cold of the Winter run was supposed to make it the toughest, but I found the Spring race with a 200m swim section in 6 degree, freshly thawed river water, far harder.

June ’19 Summer Wolf Run

This was the second of the four segments and my first time running with a Go Pro camera mounted to my head. I was also just getting started with video editing, which is obvious now when I go back and watch it. But the race is a blast.
